I bought the bike around eight or nine months ago as a complete wreck, it had been stood out in the elements down near Lands end Cornwall for nearly four years and had suffered as a result quite badly but after many hours of work and a large amount of money being spent (nearly £750.00 to date) she is now looking very respectable. I stripped the entire bike down thoroughly cleaned all the parts then set about sanding priming and re-spraying the frame then gave it several coats of lacquer for good measure. New forks were sourced as were a lot of other parts including rear shocks, three chrome cam covers, frame cover (sits next to regulator) centre frame petrol tank, fork seals, custom silver inlaid grips, pair of side panels, "T" bars from M&P Motorcycle Parts & Accessories, Highway Hawk mirrors, replacement carbs as the last owner had decided it was a good idea to clean the originals with a Dremmel using a grinding head and as such they were in a bit of a mess plus one of the diaphragms had gone. Also bought leather tool roll and lever tassels to help give it the look I wanted all parts with the exception of the "T" bars were bought from E-bay. After getting the bike back in one piece I then set about deciding on a color scheme I hemmed a hawed over this as everyone does them black & silver or red & silver or blue & silver etc etc. I wanted something that would make her stand out from the rest and I think I've accomplished that with the "Captain America" paint job! Everything was sanded and flatted right back, four coats of primer applied on all the body work then wet flatted, tacked off then three coats of diamond white applied then masked off, the stars were made from wide masking tape and carefully put in place (using an old Dinky car with rubber tyres to roll down and seal the edges of the stars) then three good coats of Vauxhall Atlantis blue were applied then re masked (after a three day drying period) then re-masked and three coats of Ford Venetian Red applied to all parts with the exception of the side panels which I think look quite good in the blue over silver then masking removed to give the star effect then everything received four good coats of lacquer to finish it off ! I've been itching to get everything back on her which I did only yesterday then stood back and admired the finish! I think she has come up quite well from the wreck she once was. I've still got a few bits and pieces to do yet but she will be back on the road in the very near future!!! Please feel free to let me have your thoughts on the bike I would like to hear your feedback! Many thanks and best regards, Andy |
